Lesson 122

“Forgiveness offers everything I want.”

Forgiveness is the answer.

If there is a problem or conflict in your life, forgiveness will solve it.

Forgiveness is the answer to all problems, all questions, all uncertainty.

It is the key that opens the door to Heaven.

You might think: “my problems don’t involve other people, so there is no one to forgive.”

Then forgive yourself!

For me, I went through a period of many years of seeing the light in everyone. Suddenly all conflict with “other people” disappeared. One day I realized I had great relationships with every single person I met. Everyone loved me and I loved everyone back. There was not a single person in my life that I felt needed correction, or who I had a grievance with. I had a willingness to be wrong about everything because “I’d rather be happy than right.”

So, there was no one to blame and no situations to fix, or go to therapy about.

All my relationships were peaceful.

And yet …

I was still in conflict.

I was still miserable.

I was still exhausted.

And that’s when I realized I hadn’t forgiven myself. I took all that conflict that I used to inflict on other people, and turned it inward onto myself.

I still felt guilty. I still felt shame. I felt that I was doing things wrong. That I wasn’t dedicated enough, wasn’t honest enough, wasn’t giving enough, wasn’t doing enough, wasn’t practicing the lessons perfectly, wasn’t generous enough.

I was very harsh on myself thinking I had to be a perfect little teacher of God.

My standards were very high, and I always fell short of my ideal of the way I thought I was supposed to be, and as a result I felt guilty and worthless.

Hating and judging yourself is EXACTLY THE SAME as hating and judging other people. It seems quieter – now you have the appearance of being a nice person – but the poison level is as potent and lethal.

In my opinion, it’s worse and more deadly.

Because now, you’re just letting it grow inside of you, trying to hide it, trying to cover it with smiles and nice words … but inside it’s growing like mold.

I believe this is the real reason people get sick: you’re poisoning yourself with attack thoughts.

All day long you beat yourself up, and then you wonder why you feel like hell.

You’re killing yourself!

And this is why you need forgiveness. In every situation, remember the importance of your role in salvation.

Now: I can just be myself.

I’ll be the first to admit: I make mistakes all the time. I’m a huge goof-ball. I don’t have my act together. I don’t always say the right thing, and I’m not always a little angel.

But I’m always myself. I dedicate myself to watching the way I think, and letting my thoughts be gently corrected when I am off the mark, when I am not thinking with God. I trust that this is sufficient.

I love this quote from A Course in Miracles, chapter 14, Section V:

“Your only calling here is to devote yourself, with active willingness, to the denial of guilt in all its forms.”

What purpose does guilt serve? What purpose does telling yourself “I’m a failure” serve?

Think about it. Get logical. Does telling yourself you are unworthy serve any purpose at all? Does it help anyone?

Once you make these teachings logical, it will become much easier for you.

You’ll see – and very quickly – that telling yourself you are sinful, fearful, worried, fat, worthless, is a total waste of time & energy. It serves no purpose at all. Zero.

Look at it. When you tell yourself you’ll never find love …what purpose does this serve?

It doesn’t do anything except make you feel bad.

Instead, you can decide today is the day you start thinking differently about yourself. You start living in the POSSIBILITY and the ANTICIPATION and the EXCITEMENT and the ADVENTURE.

You have two choices – boredom or adventure – so why not choose adventure?

How is this accomplished?

One word …

FORGIVENESS.

You forgive yourself for all your mistakes and failures.

You forgive yourself for the past.

You forgive all the cruel things you’ve said and done to yourself and others.

I’ve said this before: you hit the delete button on all your stories.

What have you got to lose?

Forgiveness offers everything you want.

Here is the answer! Do not turn away in aimless wandering again. Open your eyes today and look upon a happy world of safety and of peace.

Today all things you want are given you.
