I am not a body. I am free.
It certainly doesn’t feel this way sometimes, huh??
This is the reason I love the idea of moving the assemblage point, because it’s a matter of shifting your focus.
Either you are focused on the body *OR* you are focused on the light. Either you are focusing on your mistakes or you are focusing on your holiness. It cannot be both at the same time. It is one or the other. Which is it for you? Where is your focus?
Please do not just keep repeating this phrase “I am not a body. I am free” like a parrot thinking that will do the trick. You have to literally shift from being a solid body to a mind that is free. It takes some work. It takes vigilance. It takes patience. It takes commitment to make the shift entirely.
Everyone has had GLIMPSES of being pure light, brief moments when you feel like you are in the flow, when everything is going right, when time disappears, when you feel happy, when you have no problems, when you forget about your body, when you don’t feel any pain, and peace envelops you so completely that you actually don’t even notice anything in the physical world.
And then something snaps you out of it – the phone rings, someone enters the room, you remember a bill you have to pay, you start remembering your problems, you start thinking about all you need to plan and accomplish – and ZOOM … you’re back in the world again. Back in a body. Back in the heaviness. Back in the seriousness.
And then you start feeling your aches and pains again. You start thinking about your limitations.
But you’re not a body. You’re free.
It is up to YOU to keep disrupting your solidness. Keep shifting your focus to the light. Keep shifting your focus to God. Keep your focus on the truth: that you are a Mind, Spirit, Eternal, Whole, Creative, and Perfect.
You encompass all things. All power has been given to you to heal the sick and raise the dead. You are loved. You are not alone.
You are the Savior of the world.
Salvation of the world depends on your remembering.
“The mind that serves the Holy Spirit is unlimited forever, in all ways, beyond the laws of time and space, unbound by any preconceptions, and with strength and power to do whatever it is asked. Attack thoughts cannot enter such a mind, because it has been given to the Source of love, and fear can never enter into a mind that has attached itself to love. It rests in God. And who can be afraid of Innocence, who only loves?”
This idea (of being in service to the Holy Spirit, of being perfect, to be only love, to give only love, and to not be concerned about the body at all) is insane to the ego. It will fight you to the bitter end.
One thing that may start to happen (or already has happened to you) as you start to shift from being a body to the light is that the body appears to fall apart. Either that, or your world starts to fall apart. I’ve seen this happen a thousand times. And at this point, people get really scared and rush back to “assemble” the pieces again. They try to be a body again. They take a pill, a drink, a bag of cookies. They try to go back to the crumbling house, except that it is no longer there. They rush back to that place that they was “safe” … in their sickness and limitation … despite the complete illogic and irrationality.
They forget that they prayed for a change. It’s funny when you look at it with sanity. You asked for a change, you prayed for something new to occur … and when it starts to happen, you frantically try to stop it. And then in a moment of quiet – usually that same evening – you are back to praying again for a change to occur in your life.
My guess is that you have already done this. I speak from deep personal experience. When you start to enter into the light, physical things start to happen. Things break. Things fall apart. Going into the light is not like riding up an escalator. It’s not a walk in the park. It’s really dramatic. I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just telling you how it is. Don’t be afraid.
What I can tell you is this: the reason most people struggle is that they try to hold onto their body and the world (they try to control and manipulate the experience) while at the same time trying to get into the light. They have one foot in the world and one foot in Heaven … and this is the reason it is painful.
The minute you LET GO and lift your foot from the world, lift your defenses, let go of your control, let go of your ideas of how it is supposed to look … you will bypass all the pain and suffering and struggle of the transformation, and it will not be dramatic at all. You will catapult into the new world.
And you will be amazed.
Most people struggle because they are still holding on. They are afraid they will lose their job, their relationship, their identity, their money, their house, their pride, their body.
A lot of people are really afraid to go the full distance because they are afraid of death and afraid of God.
So you really do have to be a little fearless, at least momentarily.
I am the demonstration that it is perfectly safe to let go. Your whole life will be transformed. A Course in Miracles is true: there is only love.
I can guarantee you, absolutely, that miracles are your natural inheritance and should be happening every day. But you cannot see this while you do it half-heartedly. And you definitely you cannot be in two places at once. You have to let go. You have to trust.
I’m standing here before you telling you IT’S PERFECTLY SAFE UP HERE. There’s nothing to fear. Come on in.
A good example is like trying to go into a cold pool of water by taking baby steps. Many people who go the “baby steps” route never actually make it fully into the water. They stop around their thighs and say “okay, that’s enough!” and then they have no idea what they missed. They stop the experience before they go the full distance. This is what most people do with transformation and awakening. They go up to their thigh and say “okay, that’s enough!” and they have no idea what they are missing.
It’s better just to jump in from the deep end and be shocked for 30 seconds.
You will love it.
Be free today. And carry freedom as your gift to those who still believe they are enslaved within a body. Be free, so that the Holy Spirit can make use of your escape from bondage, to set free the many who perceive themselves as bound and helpless and afraid. Let love replace their fears through you. Accept salvation now, and give your mind to Him Who calls you to make this gift to Him. For He would give you perfect freedom, perfect joy, and hope that finds its full accomplishment in God.
I am not a body. I am free.
I hear the Voice that God has given me, and it is only this my mind obeys.
Wow! This is perfect. The analogy I think of when making huge changes is this: I’m in a boat heading accross the water toward my new destination. The place I left is growing more faint in the distance, but I can’t see the destination yet. I’m affraid that soon I’ll lose sight of the old familiar place and yet not be able to see the new place yet. There’s that scarry transitional void, and the temtation is to head back to the known negative at the expense of the unknown promise.
Great post Lisa, Thankyou

This seems so old to me ..I was a ‘guru’ ACIM teacher healer and when I got whacked with a chronic illness I did not realize I was judging with ACIM ! Have you had a chronic illness? I have become like puddy after this experience and do not rely on ACIM words to uplift and separate myself from those poor unenlightened ones that do not accept the’change’ they asked for…who is ‘they’? ..very tricky! that old saying is true ..until you walk in somebodies shoes as a master I would say keep your mouth shut which is what I do now…very humbling to not know it all or because a book says” blah..blah…the journey from head to heart is dramatic and graceful.I have come Home to myself and trust my Self.
Hi Denise,
thanks for writing.
I don’t know if cancer and alcoholism are considered chronic diseases but those I once had and now I do not.
But none of this affects the truth of reality at all. i write and teach because my own life has been so dramatically changed by Jesus, and yes, changed by A Course in Miracles. This journey is very personal and perhaps the instruction you are receiving is “to keep your mouth shut”, but the instruction I receive – at least in this moment – is to write and speak and express this message so others may hear it.
You’re right – the journey from head to heart is dramatic and graceful.
I thank God for you.
love, lisa
