Perfect Brilliant Stillness: beyond the individual self by David Carse

    August 31st, 2008

Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of great books. This latest one I heard about from my neighbor. She was sitting outside and when she saw me, she enthusiastically called me over. She said “Oh, you will love this book! Here, read the Introduction.”

So I did and I was immediately intrigued. The beautiful part is that the Introduction isn’t even the best part. This book is filled with gems, and as an added bonus: David Carse is hilarious.

    Perfect Brilliant Stillness

    Perfect Brilliant Stillness

    From the Introduction:

    by david carse

    the fine print

There are many books out there that will help you to live a better life, become a better person, and evolve and grow to realize your full potential as a spiritual being.

This is not one of them.

At the time of this writing, almost every popular spiritual teacher in America and Europe is teaching that ultimate spiritual enlightenment, once attained only by certain yogis, gurus and other extraordinary beings, can now be yours, and that by reading their books or attending their seminar will help you toward that end.

This book will tell you that these ideas are absurd, because it’s quite obvious that neither you nor anything else has ever existed.

In fact, notwithstanding the enthusiastic blurbs on the cover, I would actually encourage any reasonably normal person not to buy this book. I say this because there is no point in spending good money on another “spiritual” book only to have it turn out to be of no use to you. The subject matter is such that only a very few will be interested in it. What is written about here, if it is really understood, is so genuinely strange that it is on the far edge of what the normal human brain can comprehend or accept. I wouldn’t have understood it myself, or found it interesting, before what happened in the jungle.

In addition, if you do find yourself interested, and are able to see past the words to understand at least some of what they point to, you are likely to find it quite disturbing. Few people buy books on spirituality to be deeply disturbed, so consider yourself forewarned.

And finally, if you read it anyway, and what is hinted at here resonates and is by some remote chance followed to its end, then that will likely also be the end of you. So again, a warning. With any luck, you will not come back from this with a life you can call your own; “you” will not come back at all.

There’s no way to know what the chances of this happening, but the Upanishads say that “only once in a thousand thousand years does a soul wake up,” so there’s probably no need for concern. Probably.

    That said, enjoy.

    Lesson 244

    August 31st, 2008

I am in danger nowhere in the world.

I love what is happening to me lately: I feel totally free. Nothing bothers me. I’m happy all the time. I feel an overwhelming constant joy.

And yet external appearances appear as they always have, or perhaps are even worsening. My bank account is a disaster. If you looked from the outside in (like a fly on the wall) you’d think: Her life is kinda boring.

And yet … it’s thrilling! It’s magnificent! It’s astonishing. I am continually surprised and delighted that Christ is my Mind! He’s not channeling through me … He’s me!

    It floors me.

I’m looking with His eyes, and hearing with His ears.

And this is available to everyone. Not just a select few, not just for me, but for everyone. This IS the journey without distance.

And best of all: I am in danger nowhere in the world! I’m perfectly safe. Doubt has disappeared. Failure does not exist. Sickness doesn’t come anywhere near me. I’m happy all day long, by the sheer simplicity that truth is true.

Can this be taught? I have no idea. It was given to me as I removed distractions. It was given to me because I asked for it. The Voice of God was always speaking to me - since the beginning of my sojourn into time & space - but I couldn’t hear God’s Voice because I was so preoccupied with external things. BUT IT WAS ALWAYS THERE TO RECEIVE! God was speaking all the time! He’s been with me always.

And now I can hear Him (of course! He’s my Mind) and it’s marvelous.

More and more I see the parody/dilemma of spiritual teachers. There’s no one to teach to. It’s great. I don’t have to do anything. I don’t have to be concerned about anyone.

I express myself because it pleases me to see my own mind in action - so yes, I love this blog, yes, I love writing - but I’m coming to the happy realization that there is no result and that I don’t have to do anything.

How did I “get” this? I have no idea. It’s like everything happened and nothing happened. I’m over here laughing. It’s hilarious. Everyone makes such a big deal about having a spiritual awakening. Everyone is trying to get some level of understanding and clarity. Everyone is trying to wake up. It’s funny to me how when I look at all my years of dedication to have an enlightenment experience, how I was trying to accomplish something, achieve something, know something … when all along the truth was right there in front of me!

I was blind and now I can see.

What happens next? Who knows! Who cares!

    Lesson 243

    August 30th, 2008

Today I will judge nothing that occurs.

This is a great lesson for me as there have been many “disappointments” in the past month. A lot of things turned out differently than I imagined/hoped they would.

I’m being honest, which is what today’s lesson requires: honesty.

“I will be honest with myself today. I will not think that I already know what must remain beyond my present grasp.”

Don’t feel sorry for me. Just do the lesson for yourself. Be honest. Realize that you don’t know anything - that it is impossible to see the whole picture from the little fragmented bits - and that there is a larger plan occurring here. Judge nothing that occurs.

For those of you reading this blog for any length of time, you know one thing: I’m in the same boat as you. I’m not any different and we’re going through the same things together. That’s the perfection. I’m literally walking the same path as you - with chaotic things coming at me from seemingly out of nowhere - and yet, I’ve been given a systematic way to change my mind and see everything differently.

So I’m not preaching up on high because I’m taking the journey with you. I’m on the path - there’s still miles to go - and I refuse to slow down to get up on a soap box to describe the terrain I’ve already traveled. What a waste of time. I prefer to let the past go and keep going forward to the finish line.

I desire only to see the NEWNESS of every day.

This blog is more like a traveler’s notebook, where I document the interesting points (in the terrain of my mind) for my own amusement and enjoyment.

So today I recognize that I do not know the whole big picture. Judgment becomes impossible. I don’t know why things fall apart, shift and change. I don’t know why people come and go. I don’t know why my direction suddenly changes. I don’t know. But God knows. He knows the Plan.

I’m not going to hold onto anything - or try to rearrange anything - because that would only be my own interference - me trying to control how I think things should occur. Trying to rearrange events is an attempt to stay in the same spot in the journey and not move ahead. Trying to get other people to do what you want them to do is manipulation to stay in time and space. It’s a delay tactic, an attempt to control how you think things should go … rather than simply letting God show you where you need to go.

Be honest. Are you trying to manipulate people, events, situations? OR are you waking up to a brand new day every day, aware that you have a Guide Who shows you where to go. Forget about other people. This is only about you. If something is not working, let it go. Don’t try to force anything to work. God’s got the map, and He knows the way. Judge nothing that occurs.

    Let go, and let God.

God is putting down signposts for me. He’s nudging me forward. He’s leading me to the new places I need to go. Sometimes I’m journeying down the wrong path or heading in the opposite direction - and there is a disruption to set me back on the correct path. Knowing this, how can I judge anything???

I can only rejoice that I have a Guide Who knows the way, and who is leading me.

It means I remain in a state of acceptance and wonder, no matter what occurs.

If you’ve ever taken a long-distance car trip, or a journey through nature, you know that you are a passenger observing the scenery. You watch things as they go by. Sometimes you see a horrible car wreck or a dead deer all blood and guts, but you don’t stop to analyze it. You just keep going. The thought might linger in your mind but you say to yourself “oh well, these things happen.” You don’t try to fix it. You don’t try to go back and make it right again. You just keep going forward on the way to your destination.

You might even be one of those people who does stop to help, but then you quickly get back on your way again. You don’t camp out there … wondering the whys and the hows.

And so it should be with events in your life. Just keep going. Don’t judge. These things happen. Don’t try to fix it. Just keep heading towards your destination. It’s all just scenery. Don’t get trapped in the story.

    Forward ahead.

Today I will judge nothing that occurs.

    I let the past go.

“Father, today I leave creation free to be itself. I honor all its parts, in which I am included. We are one because each part contains Your memory and truth must shine in all of us as one.”

    Lesson 242

    August 29th, 2008

This day is God’s. It is my gift to Him.

I love this lesson. It’s like it’s God’s birthday and I want only to do what HE wants to do today. Have you ever done this for someone on their birthday? It’s great. You give the whole day to them. Whatever the birthday girl or boy wants to do is what you want to do. A complete giving up of your own agenda. You go where they want to go. You do what they want to do. You eat what they want to eat. It’s their day … and you’re a servant in their court.

It’s like being a maid to the bride or a best man to the groom. On their wedding day, you clear your whole schedule from start to finish and you place all your focus, attention, care and love on the other person: the bride or the groom. You wear the ugly dress. It’s their day. You do what they want you to do, no questions asked. You do it because you love them.

    Bridesmaids by jilly~bean.

That’s today’s lesson. This day is God’s. It is my gift to Him. I do it because I love Him. I want to do what He wants to do. I’ve cleared my schedule. It’s His day. And herein lies all my joy. I’m happy being a bride’s maid. I’m honored to be a servant to God.

“And so we give today to You, God. We come with wholly open minds. We do not ask for anything that we may think we want. Give us what You would have received by us. You know all our desires and our wants. And You will give us everything we need in helping us to find the way to you.”

    Amen.

    Go Look in the Mirror

    August 29th, 2008

Okay, a simple practice. Go look in the mirror.

bird and leaf motif carved wood wall mirror in heavily antiqued black and gold finish

Your reflection is the ONLY ONE you should be concerned about. Your reflection is THE ONLY ONE that matters. What other people are doing is not your concern at all. A warrior is only concerned about himself, and with achieving true mastery over his own mind. There are no other people. There is just you and God.

Focusing on other people is a total waste of time, energy and the power of God.

    Just look at yourself.

Ask yourself where YOU are in the journey, be impeccable, and don’t worry about other people. As you take responsibility for your own actions (letting go of judgments, grievances, conflict) those “other people” will automatically transform because there is only your mind.

    Just look at yourself.

    Lesson 241

    August 28th, 2008

This holy instant is salvation come.

“What joy there is today! It is a time of special celebration.”

    Go to fullsize image

Speaking of celebration, we’re going to start having some fun over here at Gorgeous for God. I want you guys to step in and start seeing that you can bend time and space. I want you to see miracles, first-hand. I want you to see that you can ask and receive for anything you want.

I just received the most beautiful little book in the world by Gay Hendricks called Five Wishes: How Answering One Simple Question Can Make Your Dreams Come True. First I read all that I possibly could on Amazon Search Inside This Book Feature, until Amazon told me I could not read anymore and would have to purchase the book!

(haha, I thought maybe I could read the whole book online by continually clicking “Surprise Me!” but no luck … )

Thankfully, because it’s such a beautiful book. It has arrived and I am thrilled. It even feels good when I hold it in my hands: like it’s filled with love & light. I am going to do a experiment based on the book Five Wishes here on this blog, using my own life as the demonstration - just to prove that Jesus means what he says when he declares: Ask & Receive.

    Let’s have some fun.

Five Wishes: How Answering One Simple Question Can Make Your Dreams Come True

Five Wishes: How Answering One Simple Question Can Make Your Dreams Come True

I figure it will be more exciting to do an EXPERIMENT than just to write a boring old book review. I like to see things in action. I’m not a lounge-chair kind of girl who likes to read about other people’s experiences. No. No. No. I like to see things happening in my own life, with my own two eyes.

And so should you. Don’t settle for less. Go for the gold.

Unless you see something physically demonstrated in your life, don’t believe it’s true.

Jesus in A Course in Miracles says “You don’t ask for too much, you ask for far too little.”

So, if you feel like joining in on this Great Experiment, I invite you to watch this 17-minute movie by Gay Hendricks:

    What is the world?

    August 28th, 2008

    The world is false perception.

What if you knew you were dreaming? What if you knew that the figures that seemed to walk about in it were wholly unreal?

Many have read these sentences in A Course in Miracles, but do you KNOW it??

Is it still only concept in your mind? Or do you know that everything you see is a image from your mind, projected outward and seen as real?

There is nothing solid here. There is no world. This world is a dream.

The image “http://www.leofabrizio.com/BKK/Dream-World.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Have you witnessed this in your own life? Have you had this experience? Have you seen the veil? Have you seen time and space shift and disappear? Have you seen the matrix?

This thought that can be super scary to anyone hearing it for the first time. It can also be terrifying to those who do not know what to expect.

But once you relax and open your mind, it will be given you to see that your freedom lies in this acceptance. There is no world. This means that you create your own reality. This means you’re free. This is spectacular. Instead of being scary, it should be the most exciting prospect in the world! Everything is contained in your mind! And as you change your mind, the world changes!

    The prison doors open!

This is the fun of practicing. Now we are starting to get to the prize. The goal is within easy reach. The doors of Heaven are right in front of you.

When you were born into this world, your sight was directed to the solidness, stories, categories, and names. Everything has a name here!

But … “As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world.”

“Follow His light, and see the world as He beholds it. Hear His Voice alone in all that speaks to you.”

It’s what I was writing about yesterday - God is the word. God is all. Let yourself see God in everything. Let God be in every word that is uttered out of your mouth (even if you never use the word “God” at all). This is the beauty. You don’t have to preach. You don’t have to teach. You simply have the Thought of God in your mind, and you let the word of God be contained in every word that you use and think.

Thoughts are the most powerful thing in the world!

It’s a little like Dr. Masaru Emoto with the water crystals. First he purifies the water with the sound of the vibration (or in reverse experimentation - he poisons the water with negative vibration like “I hate you”). But in those water experiments, he demonstrates the POWER OF WORDS. He demonstrates that when Love is the Word, it makes all things beautiful. Literally and Physically.

So, it is with you. Let God fill every word that comes out of your mouth. Let God be in every word that your ears hear from others.

This takes practice. When someone says “you’re ugly” or “you’re stupid” or “I hate you” … let the Thought of God purify those words before they reach your ears. From this most holy place, nothing can affect you. Nothing can touch you. By the time a negative word reaches you it is already transformed into a radiant garden and all you see is God. You’ll see that the speaker of hateful words is calling out for love because …

“What is not love is a call for love.”

“What is not love is fear.”

Put God in everything. See God everywhere. See Him in everyone. He’s in every sound, in every tree, in the cup of coffee that you are drinking, in the computer that you type on, in the chair that you sit in, in the bed you sleep in, in the water you bathe in, in the food you eat, and the people who surround you. God is in all!

There is no religion involved in this. There is no spirituality involved in this. There’s no need to prove anything. There’s not even a need to speak. Just observe and see that it is true.

“And let Him give you peace and certainty, which you have thrown away, but Heaven has preserved for you in Him.”

****Let us not rest content until the world has joined our changed perception. Let us not be satisfied until forgiveness has been made complete. And let us not attempt change our function.****

And let us not attempt to change our function.

    We must save the world.

For we who made it must behold it through the eyes of Christ, that what was made to die can be restored to everlasting life.

    Amazing, right?

When you allow Christ to be the One who looks through you, who works through, your life becomes a simple happy game. All your problems are solved automatically. All healing occurs in that instant. Sickness disappears without a trace.

All because you made a decision - and had a little willingness - to let Christ take over your body and life.

    Thank you very much.

All the angels, and God Himself, rejoice that you heard the call.

Brida by Paulo Coelho: 2nd review

    August 27th, 2008

    I LOVED this book!!!

    I finished reading Brida yesterday.

I know I already wrote about it a few days ago but it gets a second recommendation from me. It’s brilliant and beautiful.

    Brida: A Novel

I’m going to read it again. I read it at lightening speed - in two days - and I found that I was so excited by the story, that I was skipping some sentences in my excitement. Ooops. My mind went into over-drive a little, going 120 miles/per hour. LOL.

    But wow wow wow wow.

It’s filled with diamonds & gems.

Four things especially that I loved were:

    1. The importance of the words you use - God is everything there is - and we need to become aware of the vibration of words and their effects. God is all. God is the word. Other words should be dropped - they are unnecessary and meaningless.

    2. Do not describe emotions. Every experience you have in the world is simply to allow you to discover your Gift. Each one of us has a Gift and we are to find that gift and use it to serve God. The only thing of any value in this world is finding that Gift. The 9 gifts are described by St. Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians: the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, healing, the working of miracles, prophecy, the discerning of the spirits, speaking in tongues, and the interpretation of tongues. You have a gift and it is your mission to find it, uncover it and use it.

    3. You should wear all your clothes in your closet. Ha. Practical advice! It says all your clothes have an energetic charge and that you should wear them all, or get rid of the ones you are not wearing. Keep the energy moving.

    4. Begin to listen to the sound of the world. This sound goes on all the time - it’s an undercurrent which is a vibration and it goes on constantly, although most people are unaware of it. You should start dancing to that sound (not dancing to music, but rather dancing to the sound of the world, moving with it) to become one with that ever-present vibration.

There are so many beautiful ideas in this book, practically on every other page, but rather than describe them all here I am simply going to suggest you buy a copy of the book for yourself to see first-hand what I am talking about.

    Lesson 240

    August 27th, 2008

Fear is not justified in any form.

I want you to take a good honest look at this today: Is there fear in your life? Is there something you are afraid of?

Look at it. Are you fearful of something?

Fear is not justified in any form.

The beautiful part of A Course in Miracles is that you don’t have to go searching for things in your past or your future to heal - fear will rise right in front of your eyes, and that will be the thought you need to change your mind about. See that? Everything that needs your attention will be brought directly to your attention … like a cat who loves you will lay a dead mouse at your feet … and you’ll be looking right at it. It will be there for you to see. Right there at your feet. Right in front of your eyes. You don’t have to go hunting for parts of your life that need healing. You don’t need to go searching through childhood memories. Thoughts will rise before you today, and you will recognize: Okay, there’s the fear. Okay. There it is. Now I’m going to apply the lesson:

FEAR IS NOT JUSTIFIED IN ANY FORM.

Most people who practice these lessons never actually make it this far. Most people who say they “do a Course in Miracles” simply read the lesson in the morning. They don’t actually apply the lesson throughout the day in all their life circumstances.

But when you begin to apply the lesson, curious things start to happen. First of all, more crap starts coming up. Resistance. Maybe anger. More fear. Then excuses - all the reasons why your particular fear is justified. Then, if you are far enough along, you’ll have the ability to say: Okay, I’m willing to take a leap of faith here and at least practice the lesson. Okay I can practice the lesson. Fear is not justified in any form. You will feel a momentary sense of release and freedom.

And 5 minutes later the fear rises again!!

And you’re right back in hell again.

And then come more emotions: doubt, frustration, and more resistance.

(ps: it’s called “mind-training” for a reason - it’s a little like being in the military - you’re dismantling a whole false thought system so it might take a while for the whole thing to crumble. You’re most likely not going to get it on the first try. Be patient. Keep going. Keep practicing.)

Most people, initially, have no idea how to let fear go. They are so accustomed to it that they have no idea what it means to just LET IT GO.

That’s why it’s good to have a Teacher. You’re not alone. That’s why it’s good to practice these lessons to specific situations (rather than just reading them in the morning). It’s like working out in a gym … action is involved, you are required to stretch your muscles and eventually you see results.

And so it is here. Action is required. As you start letting go of fear, eventually you see results.

As you allow a little willingness to direct your practicing, you will start to feel a sense of joy and relief.

For me, I constantly feel fear. That’s not a problem. I feel fear all the time but I don’t let it stop me. I don’t let it slow me down. I step right into whatever terrifies me. I don’t let fear hold me back. I let it push me forward. I do what scares me the most. So, it’s not like the feeling of fear magically disappears - it doesn’t - it’s always there - it’s just that when it arises I tell myself “fear is not justified in any form” and then I do whatever it is that’s scaring me.

Fear is my best friend. I love her. She compels me and pushes me past my own self-imposed boundaries and limitations. She’s charming, daring and exciting. I like her a lot. She’s my constant loving companion.

Once I stopped being afraid of her, I saw how valuable she is in my life. Fear is a great friend to have!

Walk beside her and let her guide you past your comfort zones.
